Sailing Scotland

When we sailed on the West Coast of Scotland for the first time, it was in August 2018, wind and weather were unfriendly companions.  Often challenged by squally showers, most of the time exposed to drizzle and dealing with a poor visibility under a mostly overcast sky, we had to ask ourselves why we sailed on a 40 foot yacht from Oban to the Clyde.

We heard from a yachtsman telling, that only if you can take the unpredictable weather, you can see the stunning places. And a friend added 'there is no bad weather – only inappropriate clothing'.

We kept this in mind and were rewarded when the sun broke through and revealed a stunning landscape, evoking passion. A passion for mountains and scrambling on rocks, remote anchorages, wild life and an untouched nature and wilderness on a sunny day, sailing Scotland.

By chance Juerg found the yacht Corryvreckan, a 19 m steel ketch on the internet for sale. A well known boat on the West Coast, since its previous owners have offered guided cruises for many years.

And towards the end of 2018 the idea was born to give a wider circle of friends and interested people the opportunity to sail on the West Coast of Scotland and experience the very same adventures in a wonderfull area.

ORA MARITIMA Association was founded and became the owner of yacht Corryvreckan. ORA MARITMA Association offers its associates cruises on the West Coast of Scotland in the comfortable sea going yacht Corryvreckan in small groups. Sheltered lochs and remote islands allow visits to places largely untouched by man. Enjoy being a member of the crew helping in running the yacht and discover nature from the sea with a sense of adventure.

West Coast, Hebrides and the Highlands

Usualy we start our 14 day cruises in Oban and try to get to Tobermory on the first leg. Rùm and the South Coast of Skye offer lovely spots before heading to the Outer Hebrides, weather and wind permitting. Given the fact that Oban Transit Marina is a very busy spot on weekends when many charter boats have their crew change, we will try to start our cruises in 2023 during the week, depending on travel connections from Switzerland or the UK.
